Phoenix Ranch Style Homes

Ranch Revival may be a more accurate term for this informal, efficient house style that is enjoying an exciting comeback among Phoenix real estate buyers. And why not? In the hands of the right Phoenix homebuilder, it’s the perfect home: beautiful, practical, and economical.

A relative newbie in the history of home styles (the first modern Ranch home was built in San Diego in 1932), it is also the nation’s most prolific style because of its popularity during the housing boom of the ’50s through the ´80s. Many of those homes, built in a race with time to keep ahead of demand, were stripped of aesthetic embellishment. But the true Ranch dates back to the Spanish Colonial period beginning in the 1820s, and borrows elements from the Craftsman and Prairie styles as well.

In fact, the Ranch homes you’ll find in the Phoenix real estate market are heavily influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright — the long, narrow form and simplified roof line, interiors that are open to embrace the light, and a floor plan with designated living areas: sleeping on this side, social activity on the other, with the kitchen and dining room as the heart at the center of everything.

Today, the Phoenix real estate market includes Ranch homes using brick, stone, stucco, or wood siding, or any subtle, tasteful combination, and may include any architectural embellishment.
