Education

Arizona State University (ASU) is the main institution of higher education in the Phoenix area with its main campus located in Tempe.  ASU also has campuses in northwest Phoenix, Downtown Phoenix, Mesa and Glendale.  A branch of the University of Arizona College of Medicine is also located near ASU’s downtown Phoenix campus. The Maricopa County Community College District includes ten community colleges and two skills centers throughout the Phoenix metro area.

Economy

The Phoenix metro area is home to four Fortune 500 companies including:  Avnet, Freeport-McMoRan, PetSmart and Republic Services. Honeywell’s Aerospace division is headquartered in Phoenix, and the valley hosts many of their avionics and mechanical facilities. Intel has one of their largest sites in the area, employing about 12,000 employees.  The headquarters of U-HAUL International; Best Western; and Apollo Group, parent of the University of Phoenix area also located in Phoenix. US Air/American Airlines is the largest carrier at Sky Harbor International Airport and Mesa Air Group, a regional airline group, is headquartered in Phoenix.
